DIY: How to Make Your Own Simple Syrup

If you’ve ever made a Lemon Drop, Mojito, or Daiquiri, you’ve probably come across the ingredient, Simple Syrup. If your cocktail recipe calls for this ambiguously named liquid, don’t run out to your local liquor store and start shelling out cash. Instead, do yourself a favor and make it with two ingredients you already have laying around – sugar and water.

While there are a few different ways to make Simple Syrup (also known as “Sugar Syrup”), See Mix Drink prefers the path of least resistance: add 1 part sugar and 1 part water together in a container (I like to use a glass jar) and shake vigorously until the sugar is dissolved. That’s it! Now, you have no excuse for not having Simple Syrup.

Now use your Simple Syrup with the perfect Lemon Drop recipe, below: 1 shot Vodka; 1/2 shot Lemon Juice; and 1/2 shot Simple Syrup.
